About Me

I’m anna sansom

I've always been a writer

My very first publication was a letter to Bunty (a British comic for girls) when I was around 9 years old.

Next came a short story (about a shapeshifting monster!) in my school magazine .

As I got older, I began to explore more grown-up ideas in my writing, and my first book publication was an erotic short story in an anthology called Tales of Travelrotica for Lesbians, Volume 2.

Since then, my short stories have been published in numerous anthologies including:

Girls Getting Off, Lipstick Lane, Tops and Bottoms, In Pearls, Lipstick Lovers, School of Spank, Delicious Divas, I Write the Body, The Big Book of Quickies, Best Women’s Erotica Vol.10.

Other publications

You can also find my writing on popular websites (including Autostraddle, Read Aurore, Sugarbutch Chronicles, and Curve).

I wrote the Sex/Life pages for DIVA Magazine for two years and had over 50 articles published in the print magazine and online.

I’ve written novels and creative non-fiction, and curated an international collection of personal essays.

I was runner-up in the Good Sex (writing) Awards.

Oh, and I’m also a published academic author.

I'm more than a writer

I’ve worked as a sexual surrogate partner in a sex therapy clinic.

I worked as a health researcher at universities (as Dr Anna Sansom) for 20 years.

I am an editor, proofreader, and writing teacher.

And I run workshops and courses about connecting to pleasure and desire.

Your stories matter.

My story

I’d always written a diary, stories and poems, and even songs, but my erotic writing career was born from a deep desire to use my stories to understand myself… and to seduce others.

All of my writing and ideas converged in my mid-40s and I wrote my book Desire Lines.

Desire Lines is all about what happens when we choose ourselves over others’ expectations of us. It’s about how we relate to our gender, sexuality, and those we have intimate relationships with. And the bespoke paths we take to get us to where we want and need to be to feel whole and authentic.

I included some erotic fiction in that book and reflective questions for the reader, but it was mostly made up of my personal stories – my experiences of coming out, working as a sexual surrogate partner, embracing my kink side, and learning more about my libido and pleasure as I survived bereavement, illness, and growing older.

At 45, I thought I knew myself well.

Then I reached my early 50s and I remembered that there is always more to explore, learn, and understand.

Now, as well as writing Desire Lines 2.0 (my “living experiment of desire in queer midlife” on Substack), I’m honoured to get to share what I know about writing and showing up in our truth through my courses and workshops, and one-to-one support.

And the rest...
